SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING 

A Special General Meeting of members of Caribbean Actuarial association Inc. has been called for 29th June 2023 at 3:00pm EST/4:00pm AST to ratify CAA Standards related to IFRS 17 and accept the 2021-22 Audited Financials. Members, the proposed Standards are critical to our work in respect of IFRS 17 so please make every effort to attend.  Please check your inbox for the meeting link.

The meeting took place as scheduled and both new Standards were approved.

COMPLIANCE

Due to the ongoing work on the new website, CPD attestation opened late this year. We’ve therefore extended the close off date to 31st August.

All Ordinary, Affiliate and Associate Members of the Caribbean Actuarial Association are required to do Continuing Professional Development. This requirement became effective 1st January 2010. Please log into the members' area of our website and select the appropriate button from the menu.

The following members are not required to complete the CAA’s CPD Attestation:

a)       Student members

b)       Retired members who undertake no actuarial work

c)       New members, for the year in which they become members

d)       New associates, for the year in which they receive their associateship

e)       New fellows, who were previously students, for the year in which they receive their fellowship

THE CAA AT THE INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF ACTUARIES 2023

The CAA was very well represented at ICA 2023 in Sydney, Australia, 28th May - 1st June. Our Team, led by President Simone Brathwaite, included IPP Kyle Rudden, Cathy Lyn, Lisa Wade, Pedro Medford, Britta Hay, Stokeley Smart and Shubash Gosine (virtually). Presentations will become available on actuview in August.

INSURANCE ASSOCIATION OF THE CARIBBEAN 41ST ANNUAL CONFERENCE 

Immediate Past President Kyle Rudden and Bertha Pigrim, Chair of our Climate Index Task Force, represented the CAA at IAC’s Insurance Conference from 4th-6th June in Montego Bay, Jamaica. While there, we participated in the panel:  Insuring for Sustainability: Tackling Climate Change and Nature Loss in a Post-Covid Landscape.

JAMAICA MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD AWARDS CEREMONY 

On 24th May, the Math Department at UWI Mona presented awards to the winners of their annual Math Olympiad, of which the CAA is a proud sponsor. Stuart South represented us at this event. Watch the entire ceremony here.
